Call Me Battle - Dr Hook vs Lionel Richie

Hello?
Hi! It’s Me! Just calling to let you know that it’s time for the playoffs of the Call Me Battle of the Bands.
The Call Me series contains songs about telephones and making phone calls. There are really quite a few songs out there, and many that didn’t hit the original set of battles… but I felt it was time to start the playoffs, so here we are!
Last month Blondie beat out Sir Paul and his Wings. This month we have Dr Hook taking on Mr Lionel Richie.
I think there's quite a bit of nostalgia associated with both of these tunes and it will be interesting to see how the voting goes!
First up on the stage is….
Dr Hook
Our second contender on the stage is….
Lionel Richie
Who will move on in the next round of the playoffs? Cast your votes in the comments below. If you find yourself unable to leave a comment, please visit Jingle Jangle Jungle’s facebook page to leave a comment on the post that correlates with this battle.
In the event that you are new here, or you have simply forgotten… Here’s a review of how a battle works:
Listen to each of the contenders. Try not to be persuaded by the videos. I like to close my eyes and let the music transport me. Keep an open mind and don’t be persuaded by the artist name.
Pick the contender that you prefer the most
Leave a comment with the name of the contender you have chosen. Feel free to expound upon your choice.
Visit the other bloggers that have battles taking place. Their battles are different from each other, so be sure to check them out.
Are you a blogger and want to join in the fun with your own music battles on the 1st and 15th of each month (or only one battle a month) - reach out to Mr McCarthy to get yourself added to the list!
Alright now… Cast your votes in the comments! Voting Results will be posted in the comments below on the 22nd of this month (or close to it).
Yeah, I have a lot of memories associated with both songs. I always enjoyed hearing "Sylvia's Mother" but now I appreciate it more than I used to since I was somewhat dismissive of Dr Hook back then. They were pretty good though. Still, I prefer the music of Lionel Richie better and this song holds so many more memories good and bad that it's more a part of my life.
ReplyDeleteMy vote is for Lionel Richie's "Hello"

DeleteHey all-
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let you know that I'm alive. I came down with the flu today, but otherwise doing okay.
I'll get around to approving your comments as soon as I can. Lee, I see yours, will get it approved soon ☺️

ReplyDeletePro Tip: I read somewhere (and I believe everything I read) that the best thing to prevent the flu is Wild Turkey 101. I've been drinking that daily for years and I can't even remember the last time I had the flu (nor what I had for lunch), so there must be something to that rumor.
This contest was pretty close for me; I waffled & pancaked for awhile. But finally decided to cast my vote for Lionel Barrymore--- er... I mean, Richie Cunningham... uhm... Ritchie Blackmore... No, No, NO! Lionel Richie!
Judge Al Bondigas said he was sure he'd be rulin' fer the same cat I did, but after listening to both songs, he decided he was rulin' for the more raggedly passionate Dr. "Pirate" Hook song.

I'm all for Dr. John which I find more original. I know the Lionel Richie song too well because it was played to death back in the day. I have to go with the doc.

Somebody screwed with your DNS record and jinglejanglejungle.net now takes you to an Indonesian video game site. You might need to look into that. I got here by going to jinglejanglejungle.blogspot.com.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Dr. Hook did Shel Silverstein proud with "Sylvia's Mother," so I'm voting for that.
Hi John.
DeleteI let my domain lapse in December. Stephen an I both mentioned it in the January battles that everyone would need to use the blogspot address from now on.

Lots of nostalgia with both songs, but Lionel resonates a little more. ☺
