Hello?
Hi! It’s Me! Just calling to let you know that it’s time for the playoffs of the Call Me Battle of the Bands.
The Call Me series contains songs about telephones and making phone calls. There are really quite a few songs out there, and many that didn’t hit the original set of battles… but I felt it was time to start the playoffs, so here we are!
First up on the stage is….
Blondie
Our second contender on the stage is….
Paul McCartney & Wings

In the event that you are new here, or you have simply forgotten… Here’s a review of how a battle works:
Listen to each of the contenders. Try not to be persuaded by the videos. I like to close my eyes and let the music transport me. Keep an open mind and don’t be persuaded by the artist name.
Pick the contender that you prefer the most
Leave a comment with the name of the contender you have chosen. Feel free to expound upon your choice.

I didn't follow Paul McCartney too much after the Beatles. I like his music okay for the most part, but a lot I'm not overly enthusiastic about. This song is well performed, but just okay in my view.
ReplyDeleteGive my vote to Blondie. Love this song and I do like their music in general.

DeleteA 3rd vote for Blondie! I just love that song. I like Wings but this song was just OK. His voice, near the end was irritating me.

ReplyDeleteHello. ...Hello? ...HELLO?!
...Mary, if you're there, pick up!
I have a vote and a rulin' to submit here...
I often make fun of Blondie. Mostly because... it's so easy. I mean, she was the original "Madonna" in music -- all looks and no substance; Pop music's first major blonde airhead. Truth be told, I don't mind some superficial music at times. But my real problem with Blondie (not even taking into consideration the dumbed-down name), is that she / they couldn't even decide whether they wanted to be New Wave or Disco, so they tried to be both simultaneously. (And, frankly, I always disliked BOTH musical genres, so it was a no-win situation according to mine own ears.)
The Paul McCartney song is kind of repetitive and strange -- it's like he was trying to do some kind of old Blues thing... or sumpin' like that. I'm not wild about it, but it still beats New Wave-Disco for me.
I managed to corral Judge Al Bondigas in order to get a rulin' from him. The first thing he asked me was: "Is this the dead Paul McCartney or the still-living Paul McCartney?" I accurately told him that it's the "Paul McCartney" who's still breathing.
Judge Al didn't like the McCartney song at all, so he threw the book at him and made a rulin' for Madonna 1.0
Looks like I'm saving you from a shutout, Mary.
