Battle: Glenn Miller vs Tom Waits
The last battle was such a good one!
To recap the battles so far:
October:
The Marvelettes took on Brenda Lee, and The Marvelettes won that battle.
November:
The Marvelettes took on Glenn Miller. It was a tight race, but Glenn Miller took the win!
And that brings us to our December battle: Glenn Miller vs Tom Waits
So let’s get right to it!
Glenn Miller
Tom Waits
In the event that you are new here, or you have simply forgotten… Here’s a review of how a battle works:
Listen to each of the contenders. Try not to be persuaded by the videos. I like to close my eyes and let the music transport me. Keep an open mind and don’t be persuaded by the artist name.
Pick the contender that you prefer the most
Leave a comment with the name of the contender you have chosen. Feel free to expound upon your choice.
Visit the other bloggers that have battles taking place. Their battles are different from each other, so be sure to check them out.
Alright now… Cast your votes in the comments! Voting Results will be posted on the 8th of this month.
Hi Mary!
ReplyDeleteHope the season is off to a promising start to being one of the happiest ever.
What a character Tom Waits is ;-) Red rose ribbons aside, I'm voting for Glenn Miller this time.
I like a lot of the music of Tom Waits, but not so much this particular recording. And Glenn Miller just sounds a lot better to me. Glenn shoots Tom right out of the musical sky.
ReplyDeleteA vote for Glenn Miller.

MARY, MARY, QUITE EXTRAORDINARY! ~
ReplyDeleteWell, this one was a no-brainer for me.
I am a really big fan of Tom Waits' music, but I always clarify this by adding, "just the pre-'83 Waits". I think Tom lost his mind when he met "that woman" on the set of the movie 'One From The Heart' in 1982, which is why I believe the soundtrack for that movie was the last great album Tom Waits ever recorded.
This Waits song, 'I'll Shoot The Moon' is from his 1993 album 'The Black Rider'. And since 1993 is LATER than 1982, I don't like this song. However, I still LOVE Glenn Miller's 'Pennsylvania 6-5000'. So that's where my vote lands.
My Brother, Judge Al Bondigas, listened to both songs also, and about the Tom Waits song, he said, "I don't like it."
So, please give *TWO VOTES* to Mr. Miller.
At the time of this typing, no comments have yet appeared on this blog bit. But I'm afraid I've got a bad feeling that you might find yourself with a shutout in this match-up. I hope not, but I feel an anti-Waits vote-storm brewing.

STMcC Presents BATTLE OF THE BANDS
Oh gosh Glen Miller all the way. I don't want Tom to make any nests in my hair:))
ReplyDeleteI like both of these, and as such will go with Tom Waits, because he won the coin toss.
ReplyDeleteGood-morning, Mary! I'm glad you decided to link your recent BOTB up this week's 4M party. I'm running late on all counts having taken the latter part of last week off to spend it with DH but do you blame me? :) Anywho, I'm going with Glenn Miller. Honestly, I can't think of much that Tom Waits has done that I'm crazy over but Miller is a timeless talent that never grows out of favor in my book. Have a marvelous Monday and a boogietastic week, my dear! XO
ReplyDeleteI hope this doesn't end up reading as snarky but Tom Waits is an acquired taste and I haven't listened to enough of his music (well, the grand total of two songs, I think) to make a judgement. I'm not into nests in my hair or moons shot out of the sky for me. So, for that, and other general reasons, I also cast my vote for Glenn Miller.
