A Battle Revisited
Apologies for missing last month’s battle. My life has been turned upside down, and it pushed me to a point that I just needed to step away from everything for a half-minute to regroup.
I’ve got some big things going on right now. I’m scheduled for more biopsies next week to determine if my cancer has spread. One biopsy will be on a lung - the dr is concerned about collapsing it during the procedure and the other is on my tailbone - so I may not feel up to sitting for a bit. I’m not particularly worried about these tests - it is what it is - but your positive thoughts and prayers will not be turned away.
Okay… got that out of the way…. Let’s get this battle going!
A good friend of mine shared this video on her Facebook page the other day. It reminded me of a battle I had done 4 years ago. In that battle, Natalie Cole took on Joan Baez and Diana Krall. It was a nail biter between Natalie and Diana, but in the end, Natalie came out on top by one vote.
The first contender is our previous winner Natalie Cole
Or second contender is our new contenders Tonic Sol-fa
Wiki tells us this about this group:
Tonic Sol-fa is an a cappella quartet from the Minneapolis–Saint Paul region. With a largely pop-music-oriented repertoire, their CDs have sold over 2,000,000 copies, and the group has toured throughout the US and abroad.
In the event that you are new here, or you have simply forgotten… Here’s a review of how a battle works:
Listen to each of the contenders. Try not to be persuaded by the videos. I like to close my eyes and let the music transport me.
Pick the contender that you prefer the most
Leave a comment with the name of the contender you have chosen. Feel free to expound upon your choice.
Visit the other bloggers that have battles taking place. Their battles are different from each other, so be sure to check them out. *I think this is a recent list, if not, Cathy keeps a current list on her battle posts.
Alright now… Cast your votes in the comments!
Mary,
ReplyDeleteYou can count on my prayers, my friend! If I were in your shoes, I think I'd fall to pieces. I sure do admire your attitude and strength.
I enjoyed the introduction to the a cappella group. They remind me a lot of Pentatonix. That being said, I can only listen to that style for just so long. However, Natalie Cole is a different story. I neither grow tired of and want to listen to entire song. This battle was too easy for me. I'm going with NATALIE COLE. ;)
Whenever you get a chance, please stop by to cast your vote in my current BOTB. Have a blessed day, my dear!
A prayer has been said for you. I can understand that you might miss some blogging stuff when you've got so much elsewise going on in your life.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the acapella version of the song, but Natalie's version reminds me so much of my favorite by Julie London that I'm going with her.
A vote for Natalie Cole.

ReplyDeleteFirst of all... WELCOME BACK!! Glad to see you returning to the BOTB ring.
*horns & confetti*
And I will, naturally, pray for your upcoming procedures.
If they say "cancer", hand the idiot doctor the books I sent you, and then go immediately to ApricotPower(dot)com and show these quacks what the medical establishment (criminal syndicate) has kept hidden for the sake of monie$.
I don't really recall your first Battle using this song, but I would bet every bottle of Mickey's malt liquor I have that I gave my vote to NATALIE... just like I'm doing now, again.
I did somewhat enjoy the Tonic Sol-fa version. BUT... Natalie Cole has a phenomenal voice (how come that?) and also, to me, this song seems like it's conveying a very personal mood & message, so I feel it works better with a singular voice and performed in a fairly straightforward musical manner.
Wonderful to have you BOTBing again, Mary! And please keep me in the loop regarding 'As Mary's World Turns'. [;^D

Must have been MY vote that won the first contest for Natalie!

I'm going with Natalie Cole in this battle. Hers sounds a lot like Julie London's original, which is in its favor. Tonic Sol-Fa's version was okay, but I didn't like it as much.
ReplyDeleteNatalie was on top of her game for this, but that bad news barbershop quartet just blistered this tune. Here I thought I was burned out on a'cap-pop, but nay nay, not today.
ReplyDeleteTonic Sol-fa gets the nod from me, in this plunge.
Natalie Cole gets my vote. Prayers for your upcoming procedures
