The 90s Were a Hot Mess
Our musical conductor for the month of June is Marie, Xmas Dolly. Marie has requested that we post our favorite songs from the 80s and 90s.
Since I covered the 80s for the AtoZ Challenge this year, I thought I would give you a setlist from the 90s today. In fairness, I can’t honestly say the 90s was my favorite decade for music. It seemed to me that music started it’s decline during this decade. So, while I can’t truly say these are my favorites, I will say that these were some that I liked.
Hold On - Wilson Phillips
(Everything I Do) I Do It For You - Bryan Adams
How Do You Talk To An Angel - The Heights
Dreamlover - Mariah Carey
Power of Love - Celine Dion
Smells Like Tean Spirit - Nirvana
Loser - Beck
Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve
Enter Sandman - Metallica
You Oughta Know - Alanis Morissette
Happy Belated, Marie! Hope your day was a great one!

90's pop music is the reason I began to shift towards country sounds. Garth Brooks, Vince Gill, Trisha Yearwood, and Shania Twain were all changing the face of country and I was on board with their sounds. Have a blessed week.
ReplyDeleteGreat songs! Although I'm pissed at Bryan Adams after a friend of mine got on a social media fight with him. He's not a nice guy.
ReplyDeleteMary,
ReplyDeleteI agree the quality of music start its decline in the 90s. There were some good song choices but most don't come to mind instantly like song titles from the 70s and 80s. Mariah and Celine were popular in our home with two young girls in the late 90s. You came up with some tunes to spin on the dance floor today. Thanks for joining the party, darlin'! Have a boogietastic day!! ;)
Jagged Little Pill was a great record for Alanis. I like Bryan Adams and i don't mind this Nirvana song but, you know me with heavy metal :)
ReplyDeleteBy 1995 I had pretty much given up on Top 40 music and was listening to blues and jazz. It went downhill in a hurry...
ReplyDeletethe 90's were my "Radio Disney" years. I didn't hear a lot of new music unless it was kid friendly. Some good music come out pf the decade, but there's a lot I never really heard. I do like some of the songs on your playlist, though.
ReplyDeleteYes they were and you have some wonderful classics here. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteAlthough there are 90's songs I like, I'm an 80's gal, as you know - yet, you managed to find some 90 songs I do like: Beck's Loser, Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit, Metallica's Enter Sandman, and How Do You Talk to an Angel. My favorites of the songs I didn't know was Bittersweet Symphony. Instant love! The other one I really liked was You Ought To Know. I should know songs from Jagged Little Pill but I honestly don't.
ReplyDeleteTruthfully, all y'all are about a decade late.
ReplyDeleteContemporary music started going to the compost pile (aka "shit") in the 1980s. By 1985, I was completely and eternally done with "modern" Pop and even so-called "Rock" so-called "music".

Although I think he's a wee bit older'n I am, apparently I was ahead of him musically by about a decade. It was the artificial, synthetic, homo-genized garbage of the mid-'80s that *FORCED* me to really begin digging deeper into the past (aka Blues & Jazz).
OK, rant over.
Carry on, y'all.
