Today’s battle comes from a post that Cathy put together a month or so back. I thought it would make a decent battle.
It’s one of those Same Name, Different Song battles.
The first contender is The Spinners (1975)
Second Contender: Joe South (1969)

Listen to each of the contenders. Try not to be persuaded by the videos. I like to close my eyes and let the music transport me.

This is a tough one. I like both songs one more for the musicality and the other lyrically. I am leaning toward The Spinners. Brings back lots of memories.

ReplyDeleteThanks for mention. I remember being torn between these two to feature in my TADwR post but like then I'm gonna have to with THE SPINNERS. I just love the overall sound. I'm stuck, because I like them both, but I'll follow suit and go with The Spinners. Ask me in an hour, I'll probably say Joe South.
ReplyDeleteI liked Joe South's song a lot when it first came out and it still sounds pretty good.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I also liked the Spinners a lot when they came out with their song and that one still sounds good to me. In fact, it sounds better to me than Joe's song.
Give my vote to The Spinners. Such a cool sound.

ReplyDeleteHokey-Smoke! TERRIFIC Battle!! I really love BOTH of these songs, and dang do they take my memories back to an era that seems more like an entirely different lifetime than just "a long time ago". Hearing these songs is bittersweet for me because I love the songs, I love the past in which they came from, and I know all that Innocence has been Lost forever. Almost brings a tear to me eye.
My Brother was here with me while I was listening to your contestants, so I elicited a BOTB Bote from him as well.
He said: "It breaks my heart to have to vote against The Spinners, because I really like them and this was SO CLOSE for me, but I have to go with JOE SOUTH."
Me, I'm going the opposite way from my Bro. I hate having to vote against Joe South, but that SPINNERS song just makes me reminisce in a good way too much to be ignored.
So, this is a TWOFER Vote: One vote for each contestant. (I know that goes a long way in helping to settle this matter.)
