1960 Stairway To Heaven
Time for another round of Throwback Thursday!
This is where we get to listen to some great music from days gone by.
Today’s music comes to us from 1960
Wikipedia tells us this about today’s tune:
Not to be confused with the Led Zeppelin song, "Stairway to Heaven".
"Stairway to Heaven" is a song written by Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield. It was released as a 45 rpm single and appeared on Sedaka's 1960 album Neil Sedaka Sings Little Devil and His Other Hits.
The personnel includes King Curtis on saxophone, Don Arnone, Art Ryerson and Everett Barksdale on guitar, Milt Hinton on bass, Irving Faberman on timpani and Dave "Panama" Francis on drums.
"Stairway to Heaven" became a hit for Sedaka after "Oh! Carol" (1958). In 1960, it repeated the performance of the previous single by peaking at number nine on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Sedaka's "Stairway to Heaven" predates by 11 years Led Zeppelin's song of the same name, which was released in 1971 and written by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant.
See you again soon! Share with me your thoughts about this theme. If you have a favorite oldies song or artist, let me know and I’d be happy to feature them.
The title reeled me in. 😄 I didn't know there was another song called Stairway to Heaven! No comparison to the Led Zep song, IMO.
ReplyDeleteI had no clue there was another song. I remember the Led Zeppelin song always being played at the high school dances. I would watch everyone slow dance only to become confused when it got faster near the end.
ReplyDeleteI love it!
ReplyDeleteCool!
ReplyDeleteMary,
ReplyDeleteI recall stumbling on Neil Sedaka when I did a BoTB featuring Led Zeppelin's rock classic. What a fun and innocent sound from yesterday! Sure does make me wish for those simpler days when people weren't so crazy. Thanks for sharing and for stopping in to vote in my BoTB, my friend. Have a good weekend. ;)
Curious as a Cathy
Neil Sedaka's music brings back fond memories. Never heard this song, but it has that classic Sedaka sound.
