#BattleOfTheBands: Goodbye
To battle, or not to battle… that is the question.
Okay, it’s more of a rhetorical question at this point.
For the past several months, much like in a real US election, voter turnout has been… well… unfortunately very low.
Then, in mid-June, I had to be away as I was having daily infusion and wound care for a case of MRSA (I had developed a large abscess on the top of my foot). I was home again before July 1, but it was a holiday weekend, and I just didn’t have the energy to put into a decent battle - especially if not many were going to make a showing. Man, I don’t know if I have been picking sucky songs, sucky contestants, or if the readers of this blog simply just don’t care anymore.
I thought I might do a battle on July 15, but as I was still having to do wound care three times a week in addition to keeping up with everything else going on around me, I just didn’t have the time to put it together. And maybe, just maybe, I developed a bad attitude toward the battles as of late.
So I figure it’s time for me to take a time out on the battles.
Now don’t fret over this bit of news.
If you know anything about me, you know that I am unable to stay away for long. As the words state in Night Ranger’s ‘Goodbye’, “I was never much good at goodbye”
I’ve got some other things going on with the blog - some new features that will be making an appearance soon, plus I’m trying to come up with a fresh set of graphics for this year's upcoming Rocktober MusicFest.
I am sure that in a month or two, I will be back and hopefully with a better selection of songs and contestants. As for the maintenance of the Master BOTB Spreadsheet, if you would like to be granted access to edit/update, please let me know and I’ll be happy to give you access.
I’d like to encourage you to visit and comment/vote on the other participant’s battles. A lot of effort goes into the battles and the best way to show support to them is to cast your vote in their battles.

That’s it from me for now. Be sure to come back and check out the new daily features (some have already started, some are going to be brand spankin’ new to the blog)
And, as I am unable to post without leaving you with music, I will leave you with this:
Hi Mary, you sure have been through a lot on the health front and you must be exhausted! Taking a break is good for mental health, as I found out, as well. Personally, I've stopped doing any blog hops and am just posting stuff as the mood strikes. Looking forward to checking out your new features. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteI finally figured that if I clicked on the "Rock on" link and opened in a new tab I was able to get in. Never had to do that before, but now that I know this works I'll use it again if I have to. I was afraid that "good bye" might mean what it turns out you said. Hope it won't be for long. Judging from what you've been dealing with I can understand. I tried to stay away, but I never seem to be able to stay away for long.
ReplyDeleteHope all gets much better for you soon. I'll look forward to when you start posting the Battles again. Take care.

Hey girl, I found your post! It's totally understandable your need to take time off. I haven't been through a tenth of what you've endured and yet I took a break and am just now working by way back into the blogging thing. So, chillax and take care of yourself. We love you and want you to get all better. Hugs to you, my dear!
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I LOVE that song. It's beautiful, and has always been special to me. I was never much good at goodbye, either.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Battles, I'm sure it's not you, sucky songs or contestants. I think low votership is largely due in part to just not many people participating in the BotB anymore. I know I just came back, but there's only about 7-8 participating now, usually just once a month. I don't even know what happened to all the others who used to participate. And I certainly never intended to stay away as long as I did (this was one of my favorite blog hops!), but life often has other plans for us. You have to do what is best for you; I totally get that.
I hope that you are on the mend, and doing well in general other than the wound.
Kim
You take the time you need because you have been through too much and you must have felt a bit more wary with this Covid crisis. You may not feel it but you are one strong lady. Listen to music, do what makes you feel better and you will only get healthier and healthier. Your foot seems to be getting better and that is good news

ReplyDeleteJust so ya know, (aside from reading from The Holy Bible every day) every day, I do a meditation session that usually lasts about 30 minutes, and EVERY meditation session I do begins with prayers for others. And YOU and your physical and Spiritual health are mentioned in every one of those daily prayers!
I'm very sorry to see you leave BOTB (and NOT just because you are the official BOTB historian, and NO ONE is going to pick up the slack and keep the BOTB historical record, now that you are gone). I hope you return on September 1st, and then work overtime to get our records up-to-date, you slacker, you! ; - )
But, regardless, please don't feel like you are not welcome (and in fact, URGED) to cast BOTB Botes on my (our) BOTB installments. And, as the board game instructions instruct . . .

STMcC Presents BATTLE OF THE BANDS
You will be missed!
ReplyDeleteMary, I'm so sorry to hear about your physical problems. MRSA is nasty (I'm a nurse with a lot of experience with nasty wounds and vents...{{{shudder}}}...)and I know how tough it is to deal with that stuff.
ReplyDeleteFollow those doctor's orders, but in the meanwhile, I'm sending big prayers!
As for the Battle of the Bands, I love it and I love your spreadsheet SO MUCH...but I'm one of those folks who can only have so much on their plate in times of anxiety and stress. I've had to back away from time to time, too. I've actually considered it lately, as everyone is on the computer at my house (hubby working at home, son doing his Masters work) and the timing is tricky.
I get it, girl. Apologies for any of the times I missed commenting. It was not for lack of love.
