#AtoZChallenge : The Dreaded X

We’re back again with more fun with the A to Z Challenge.

A quick review of what we’re doing here:

I’ll post 2 to 3 songs with a word that represents the letter of the day. In the comments, you’ll share songs that also use said word in either the title or lyrics.  Pretty easy, and loads of fun!

Today, for the letter X, instead of using a singular word that starts with X - I’m using any song that has an X word in the title.

Olivia Newton-John “Xanadu”

Coldplay “X Marks the Spot”

Elle King “Exs and Ohs”

And that’s my 3 ‘X’ songs for the day.  Let’s see what ‘X’ songs you come up with. Share in the comments.

Well, yes, if your song must begin with the letter "X" then, yes, you ain't got much to choose from. But what if the name of the band starts with "X", and also ends with "X"?

I'm thinking, of course, of the legendary Los Angeles punk band called "X" (produced by The Doors' keyboard player, Ray Manzarek) . And, yes, like all other punk bands, X sucked! I saw them play live once at a legendary ghetto-like L.A. nightclub called 'Club 88'. (I also saw my cousin perform there once a couple years later.) It wasn't a safe place for "good" people, but I wore a black leather jacket and cowboy boots, so I had nuttin' to worry about. (Even at 5'8", I could kick ass and I knew it.)

Anyway, Billy Zoom (with his silver leather jacket) was supposed to be one of the best "Rockabilly" guitarists in Rock at that time, but like the rest of the band, he sucked. I was one of the few people in L.A. who wasn't willing to say that "The Emperor's New Clothes" was a silver leather jacket.

However, having said all that, I will admit that "X" did have one song that was actually worth listening to, and only because it was a kind of brilliant analogy. (Heck, even a blind squirrel can stumble on a nut once.)

'The World's A Mess (It's In My Kiss)'...
Yip! Mary, if you knew me in the 1980s, and if we kissed, you'd un'erstan' that song title perfectly.

Here's a link to the song. Like "X", it sucks, but it's also kind of blind-squirrel brilliant (in a Punk Rock kind of way):

  6. Mary,

Xanadu was such a hit, wasn't it? I loved the mewsic from the soundtrack and those days when ELO and ONJ were popular.

    Trisha Yearwood ~ Xxxx's and Oooo's
    Michael Jackson 'Xscape'
    Green Day ~ 'X-Kid'

All three are new-to-me and courtsy of songfacts.com. There are a few other titles listed you might be interested in using if you're building an alphabetical song database.
