#SongLyricSunday #RocktoberMusicFest : Hide/Hiding/Hidden

Time again for Song Lyric Sunday!

The Idea was formed by Helen @ This Thing Called Life One Word At A Time. She has presented us with the word prompt of HIDE/HIDING/HIDDEN for this week.

With this in mind, for today’s #RocktoberMusicFest song selection, we’re going to take a step back into the 80s and hear from the Australian Rock group, Icehouse.

Icehouse was formerly known as ‘Flowers’. The band formed in 1977. At that time, they were known mostly for pub rock.  Iva Davies was the mainstay when the band changed names and musical direction.  Iva was the singer/singwriter/producer/bass/guitar/keyboards. One could say he could help out in just about any capacity that was needed for a song.

The song choice today, “Electric Blue” was co-written by Iva Davies and John Oates (of Hall & Oates). Together Iva and John came up with the lyrics asking a female  if she was ‘hiding behind those eyes’.

Lyrics

If a boy had a chance
A chance with someone like you
Are you gonna break his heart?
Let him cry for the moon?
Are you hiding somewhere behind those eyes?

I just freeze
Every time you see through me
And it's all over you
Electric blue
On my knees
Help me, baby
Tell me, what can I do?
Electric blue

Oh, I had a dream
For a moment I believed it was true
Oh, I'd have given anything
Just to be there with you
Are you hiding
Somewhere behind those eyes?

I just freeze
Every time you see through me
And it's all over you
Electric blue
In too deep
Standing here waiting
As I'm breaking into
Electric blue

I can see
Can see that it may be just a vision for you
Electric blue
On my knees
Help me, baby
Tell me what can I do?
Electric blue

  3. Boy, that's one I completely forgot about, and I remember liking it. I can say that about a lot of '80's music, which was the music of my 20's and maybe the last music where the band actually played their own instruments and didn't rely on autotune.

    1. Autotune... now there's a reason to not like today's music! I spent my teens and early twenties in the 80s, so I totally get where you are coming from.

  5. Like everyone else, I forgot all about this song and wouldn't have been able to tell you who sang it, either, lol. Great pick, thanks for the re-introduction! :) This month has been fun, getting reacquainted with forgotten songs or finding new ones.

  6. It's new to me...I think, but it has such an 80s feel it seems familiar. Nice choice! 😊

    1. I agree. I didn't recall it right away, but somewhere in my head, I am certain I have heard it before.

  7. Mary,

I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to link up yesterday. I had hoped before the day slipped away that I'd get an opportunity but that never happened. :( Anyhow, I do not remember this song but really enjoyed hearing it. It was interesting to learn that John Oates played apart in the song. I will need to check with YT for more mewsic by Icehouse. Thanks for hosting such a fun mewsic challenge all-month long!
