Our Family Jam: Everything Is…Awesome! As We Live Our Dreams!

Do you ever turn on a movie for your kids and do something else while they are watching it? Guilty! Saturday, is our family movie night. I let my son, Leo (almost 4) pick a movie and I’ll sit on the couch with him as he watches it. The baby, Izzy (19 months) will play & periodically crawl on the couch to watch it with us. Movie night gives me some extra time to catch up on social media.
About 6 months ago, I put on The Lego Movie (2014) and zoned on one of my devices out UNTIL, I heard the song Everything Is Awesome by Tegan & Sara. Leo immediately jumped off the couch and started dancing. The beat is truly infectious! Listen…
The first time I heard it I was focused on the title & first line ‘everything is awesome!’. Now we’ve watched it probably 20 times and each time I’ve paid closer attention to the words. They are awesome!!!
As you know, kids pick up everything. Leo has the chorus memorized & we sing it together while dancing around the living room. The message is so positive & one that should be heard & internalized by everyone. I’m thrilled my kids enjoy it.

As a parent there are too many songs we need to keep from our kids, this isn’t one of them. Everything is Awesome has a positive G-rated message AND it’s got a great beat that kids & adults can enjoy listening to – Bonus! Even though our kids are young they still pay close attention to lyrics and mimic what they hear.
